To the south of the valley begin the reservation areas of the Navajo Indian tribe. This is mainly a rocky desert, in which there are a large number of anthills.

Heavy rains in this area are rare. After each such rain, hundreds of people gather and begin to carefully examine the anthills. No one is interested in the ants themselves. The attention of the Indians is attracted by the red stones that appear on the surface of the anthills after the rain. This is the so-called Anthill (Ant Hill) Garnet, that is, garnet from an ant hill, the reddest rare variety of garnet.

This area is not a garnet deposit. When people tried to make several mines here on their own, they couldn't find anything. The best miners here are only ants. When building their houses, for some reason they pull stones closer to the surface and store them there. Biologists still haven't been able to explain the nature of this phenomenon.

The arrival of such garnets on the market is unpredictable. Sometimes there are a lot of them, and sometimes they are impossible to find at all. These stones are popular among jewelers and collectors.
